Mindfulness-based Educator & Mind-body Practioner
Laurie has a B.A. in Psychology, is a Certified Mindfulness Facilitator through UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center, a trained Mindfulness-based Interventionist for Mindfulness-based Relapse Prevention, and a Mindful Self-Compassion teacher through UCSD’s Center for Mindfulness. She specializes in trauma and has trained through the Trauma Resource Institute levels 1 & 2 and is completing her certification as a Trauma Informed, Nonviolent Parent Educator through Echo.
For several years she worked as a research associate at UCLA’s Child & Adolescent Mood Disorders Program facilitating Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy groups for research studies with Teens and College Students. Laurie is the co-creator, facilitator, along with Dr. Danielle Denenny, of the Mindful Parenting Support Study program that offers psychoeducational resources and mindfulness-based practices for parents of children with mood disorders.
Laurie is mentored by Susan Kaiser Greenland, founder of the Inner Kids program, and is one of her lead teachers bringing mindful awareness and compassion into education in a secular way. She teaches the IK's curriculum, ABC’s of Mindfulness, to children, teens, teachers, and administrators in K-12 public and private schools throughout Los Angeles. Laurie created the Unplug Kids program at Unplug Meditation Studio, teaching classes and private sessions that are based on the IK's curriculum.
Since Mindful Parenting is a true passion and specialty for Laurie, she is honored to be the Mindful Parenting Facilitator for schools such as, Campbell Hall and Carpenter Community Charter, where she leads weekly and monthly groups for their parents and caregivers throughout the school year.
As a Family Mindfulness Practitioner, Laurie provides effective strategies and support for families dealing with attentional, behavioral, and emotional challenges, while cultivating a more connected and peaceful home. She creates a customized support plan that includes mindfulness-based trauma informed practices and parent-focused educational tools for each family to best serve their unique needs and interests. As the Family Programming Advisor at the La Maida Institute in Los Angeles, along with her private practice, she enjoys fulfilling her passion by serving families through programs, workshops, and classes that are rooted in integrative health, mindfulness, resiliency, and communal support.
For more than two decades, Laurie has been working with clients who suffer from physical addictions to various substances and psychological dependence such as codependence, love addiction, anger, eating disorders, and untreated trauma. She facilitated Mindfulness-based Relapse Prevention and Self-compassion groups at multiple Addiction Treatment Centers in Los Angeles and worked with clients individually to process unresolved trauma through somatic-based interventions. Laurie created the Finding Freedom mindfulness-based addictive behaviors class series at the La Maida Institute and has over 30 years of continuous recovery, as well as specializing in working with adolescence and adults.
